Life Span: 12 to 15 years or more
A Sheepadoodle is a cross between an Old English Sheepdog and a Standard Poodle. While the Sheepadoodle is not as well known as its Labdradoodle counterpart, they are just as amazing and sweet. The Sheepadoodle was bred with the intended purpose of creating a dog that had the low-shedding coat of the poodle as well as the gentleness and the natural ability to read human emotions so well from the Old English Sheepdog, they very often make great therapy or service stability support dogs for people with allergies to fur and dander.
One of the most sought after characteristics of a dog is their ability to be hypoallergenic. A Sheepadoodle was bred from a Poodle for just that reason. Sheepadoodles typically have a silky, wavy coat much like that of the Old English Sheepdog (OES) but without the OES undercoat which means that your doodle's coat will tend to not to matt as early. Your Sheepadoodle's coat while cut short maybe only slightly curly or wavy, but a longer coat will show more of the OES style silky waves.
Due to our coat testing through EMBARK, you are guaranteed a puppy that will shed minimally!
Characteristics obtained from the Poodle and OES genes that make your Sheepadoodle the smart, affectionate, and silly dog that it is:
Poodle: Intelligence, athleticism, obedience, alertness, active/energetic, faithfulness, instinctually, trainability, and prideful
Old English Sheepdog: Intelligence, sociable, bubbly, playful, adaptable, loving, perceptive, easygoing, stubborn, and water-loving
Overall your Sheepadoodle puppy will be a stubborn, but loyal and incredibly playful and easygoing pup that you can't help but fall in love with.
Sheepadoodles can vary in size. They come in three sizes: micro (weighing 30 pounds and under), mini (35 to 55 pounds), and standard (80 to more than 140 pounds).
Sheepadoodles also come in a variety of colors. Most breeders like to keep the original Old English Sheepdog coloring in the puppies such as all black, black with white points, and a full part black and white. However, this is just a color preference and does not mean that the puppy can not be another color as this in no way affects temperament or health. That means your puppy can also be; white, grey, chocolate, brown, red, parti, merle and phantom depending on the parents.
Due to their loyal and easygoing nature, a Sheepadoodle will be a great addition to any home and family!
^note that easy of care depends largely on how the dog is bred.
Bred correctly the dog could have little to no shedding and will only need trims.
